After a series of appeals, a Philadelphia healthcare company must pay Paul Marazas compensation benefits even though he sustained injuries shortly after resigning from his job.
Even though he was considered to not be a current employee at the time of the injury, Mr. Marazas’ lawsuit defended that he was working at the time of his injury, and therefore should receive compensation.
The Pennsylvania Workers’ Compensation Board vacated the workers comp judge’s ruling and remanded the case to determine whether Mr. Marazas’ fall happened during the course of employment, records show. On remand, the workers comp judge found again that Mr. Marazas was injured while working because his manager “had directed him to go and perform a requested task.”
